Why Engineered Hardwood
Kingdom Floors installs engineered hardwood across Toronto and the GTA, including condos and homes where solid hardwood is not an option.
- It goes where solid wood cannot: concrete subfloors, condos, basements, and rooms with radiant heat.
- It is real wood. The surface layer is genuine hardwood, and once installed guests cannot tell the difference.
- It stays flat. The layered core resists the seasonal movement that makes solid boards gap and cup in our freeze and thaw climate.
- Wide plank and herringbone looks cost less in engineered than in solid.
Condo Installs Done Properly
This is where most flooring companies stumble and where we do a lot of our work. GTA condo boards typically require an acoustic underlay with a minimum sound rating, elevator bookings, and restricted work hours. We handle all three, and we put the underlay spec in writing for your property manager before work starts.
When is solid the better choice? If you are on a plywood subfloor in a detached home and plan to refinish the floor multiple times over decades, solid earns its price. We install both, so you get the honest recommendation, not the upsell.

What GTA Homeowners Say
Engineered Hardwood Questions
Yes. The wear surface is genuine hardwood over a stable layered core. It is not laminate and it is not vinyl.
Once or twice depending on the wear layer thickness. We tell you the wear layer spec of any product we quote so you know what you are buying.
Depends on your subfloor. Concrete usually means glue-down or a floated click-lock over underlay. Plywood allows nail-down. We choose based on what lasts, and explain why in your quote.
Most GTA buildings require an acoustic underlay meeting a minimum sound rating, plus elevator booking and set work hours. We handle the requirements and paperwork.
It depends on the install method, subfloor prep, and the product you choose, which is why we quote from a free on-site measure. The number we give is the number you pay.
